10 Best Films of All Time (According to a 9 Year Old Girl)
2. Mamma Mia! (2008)
At first glance, a movie about a bunch of middle aged people singing songs that are over forty years old doesn’t seem like a fun film for children, yet Mamma Mia! is one of Lydia’s absolute favourites – she just can’t get enough!
It perhaps speaks of the timeless nature of Abba’s music that Mamma Mia! would be so beloved by a child, and it really is the music that she loves the most. The dancing, the beach-fronts, the boats and every character reminding her of Mummy helps, but when Lydia gets in the mood for this 2008 box office hit, there’s no turning off “Mamma Mia”, “I Have a Dream”, “Dancing Queen” or “Winner Takes It All”.
1. The Muppets (2011)
Lydia is wholeheartedly obsessed with The Muppets. Her favourite cuddly toy – the one she takes everywhere with her – is Kermit the Frog, and her favourite movie quotes are as follows:
“Mmm Fart Shoes” – Fozzy Bear
“But Kermit, we’re going to get Miss Piggy, right?” – Fozzy Bear
“No drums, no drums, no drums!” – Animal
“In con-trol.” – Animal
She loves new Muppet Walter and can’t get enough of Miss Piggy, and of course she loses all composure when Walter discovers Tex Richman’s evil plan and screams his way out of Muppet Studios, onto the tram and into his car.
Her love of The Muppets was born from this 2011 version (the first under the Disney banner) and has since spread across the decades old franchise, proving the timeless quality of Kermit and company. The Muppets are so unique because they remain steadfast in their innocence and an absolute joy for children and adults alike. They’re easy to understand with their unique shapes, wardrobes and voices, and they’re easily lovable in their teddy-bear-like forms.
There is no film greater than The Muppets (2011) according to nine year old Lydia. Nothing compares to the great Kermit the Frog.
