Every ‘Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street’ Song Ranked
12. No Place Like London – Sweeney Todd & Anthony
The biggest thing we learn in this song is that Sweeney Todd in a drama queen.
Poor Anthony is trying to have a moment when Todd steps out of the shadows, clearly harbouring some serious resentment, and delivers the memorable lines:
“You are young // Life has been kind to you // You will learn.”
11. Opening Title
With its rolling fog and the flashes of lightning over London’s rooftops, the opening sequence of this film is reminiscent of a creepy Peter Pan. The whole scene is pretty cool and the animation essentially outlines the plot of the story. The music… well that’s just the cherry on the top of the cake, and a rather delicious one at that.

10. By the Sea – Mrs. Lovett & Sweeney Todd
Much like Pirelli’s “The Contest”, this song is just a little bit silly.
Lovett and Todd look so out of place on the sunny pier, and Mrs. Lovett’s fantasies have clearly run away with her. Perhaps this is why the song has been remembered as one of the film’s most enjoyable? That is, at least, in its own quirky albeit twisted way.
9. Pirelli’s Miracle Elixir – Toby, Sweeney Todd & Mrs. Lovett
Perhaps one of the more upbeat songs in the film, “Pirelli’s Miracle Elixir” gives us our first glance of Toby (and his glorious mop of hair). This song is comical and catchy, and has serious narrative intention; what’s not to love?
