Sonic Movie 2020 Review

While no decisions have been made regarding casting, it is expected that Ben Schwartz, voice of the titular character, and James Marsden (X-MenAnchorman 2) will return to star. The same is true for Jim Carrey (Dumb and Dumber; Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), who played the villainous Dr. Robotnik and was the “most standout on-screen presence”, according to The Film Magazine’s review of the first film.

Sonic the Hedgehog was a surprise hit considering the history of video game adaptations. The film broke records upon release, having the highest opening weekend of any video game adaptation in history, and went on to make $23,308,181 in the UK and $306,766,470 worldwide, even despite its theatrical run being cut short due to worldwide lockdowns.

Producers of the Paramount film from Sega Studios are Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara, while Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi and Tim Miller are credited as executive producers.
