The European Film Awards 2017 – The Winners

The 30th annual European Film Awards took place on Saturday 9th December 2017 live from the German capital of Berlin, the very best of European cinema honoured by over 3,000 European Film Academy members voting for the best in class across 21 categories including European Film.

Palme d’Or-winner The Square, starring Claes Bang and Elisabeth Moss, took home many of the big awards at the ceremony (6 overall), including European Director for Ruben Östlund (Force Majeure) at the director’s second time of asking (the first being for Turist in 2014).

Iconic French actress Julie Delpy, known for Three Colours: White and Before Sunrise, was also honoured at the 2017 ceremony, receiving the trophy for European Achievement in World Cinema. Delpy joins the likes of Antonio Banderas, Ewan McGregor, Liv Ullman and Isabelle Huppert, on the list of iconic recipients.

British independent film Lady Macbeth, from feature debut director William Oldroyd and starring up-and-coming actress Florence Pugh, also made a splash, collecting the Prix Fipresci European Discovery European Film Award.

European Hair & Make-Up Artist 2017 – Leendert van Nimwegen (Brimstone)

European Composer 2017 – Evgueni & Sacha Galperine (Loveless)

European Sound Designer 2017 – Oriol Tarragó (A Monster Calls)

European Film Academy Life Achievement Award – Aleksandr Sokurov

European Achievement in World Cinema – Julie Delpy

European Co-Production Award 2017: Prix Eurimages – Cedomir Kolar
